About Telehealth Counselling
Online counselling is just as
effective βΒ and more accessible.
Telehealth counselling β sessions delivered via Zoom or phone call β has become a mainstream, well-evidenced way to access professional support. Research consistently shows that online counselling is just as effective as face-to-face for the vast majority of concerns. The therapeutic relationship, which is the most important factor in outcomes, translates fully to a remote setting.
“Some people actually find it easier to open up from the safety of their own space. The connection is real, and the work is just as meaningful.”
β Lee McCullagh
I offer Zoom or phone sessions for all telehealth appointments. Zoom is a secure, encrypted platform that is straightforward to use on any device β you don’t need an account. I’ll send you a link before your session and you simply click to join. For phone sessions, I call you at your preferred number at your appointment time. That’s it.
Remote sessions are ideal for people who live outside of Toowoomba, whose schedules make in-person attendance difficult, who have health or mobility considerations, or who simply prefer the convenience and privacy of working from home.

Who This Is For
Online counselling suits more people than youΒ might think.
Telehealth isn’t a second-best option β for many people it’s actually the preferred way to work. Here are some of the situations where Zoom or phone sessions are a particularly good fit.
Outside Toowoomba
If you live in regional Queensland, elsewhere in Australia, or even overseas, Zoom or phone sessions mean location is no barrier to accessing my support. Many of my telehealth clients are in Brisbane, rural QLD, and interstate.
Busy Schedules & Parents
Fitting a counselling appointment around work, childcare, school pickups, or shift work is genuinely hard. Zoom or phone sessions remove the travel and waiting room time, making it easier to protect an hour for yourself in a packed day.
Health & Mobility Considerations
Chronic illness, disability, mental health conditions that make leaving home difficult, or recovery from medical treatment can all make in-person attendance challenging. Remote sessions remove that barrier entirely.
Preference for Home
Some people simply find it easier to open up in their own environment. There’s no commute, no waiting room, and no need to compose yourself before driving home. You can be in your own space, with your own cup of tea.
Couples at a Distance
For couples where partners work different hours, travel frequently, or live apart for periods, online relationship counselling allows both people to join from wherever they are β even from different locations.
Privacy-Conscious Clients
Some people prefer that neighbours, colleagues, or family members don’t see them attending a counselling practice. Telehealth offers complete privacy β no one needs to know you’re having a session.

How It Works
Easy to start,Β simple to join.
Getting started with online counselling is easier than you think. Here is exactly how my telehealth sessions work from start to finish.
π
Step 01
Book & Confirm
Get in touch by phone or email to book your session. I will confirm your appointment time and β for Zoom sessions β send a secure link to your email. For phone sessions, I’ll call you at your preferred number at your appointment time. No Zoom account is needed for video sessions β you simply click the link when it’s time.
π»
Step 02
Join Your Session
At your appointment time, click the Zoom link on your phone, tablet, or computer β or simply answer my call for phone sessions. For Zoom, I will admit you from the waiting room. Find somewhere private and comfortable β ideally with headphones if you’re concerned about others nearby hearing your session.
π±
Step 03
The Session Itself
Zoom or phone sessions run exactly the same way as in-person sessions β same 60 minutes, same quality of attention, same approach. If you experience any technical difficulties, I have a straightforward backup plan and will always be flexible about rescheduling if needed.

The Process
What your first remote sessionΒ looks like.
From booking to wrap-up, here is what to expect when you have your first telehealth session with me.
You Receive a Link or Call
After booking, I send your secure Zoom link by email β or confirm I’ll call you for phone sessions. No account needed, no software to install for Zoom. Just click the link or answer the call at your appointment time on any device.
First Session
The first session runs 90 minutes and follows the same structure as in-person β understanding what you’re carrying and what you’re hoping for. Many people find they settle into the remote format very quickly and naturally.
Ongoing Sessions
Subsequent sessions run 60 minutes, weekly or fortnightly. I send a fresh Zoom link before each video session, or call you for phone sessions. Payment is made via bank transfer before or after each session β simple and straightforward.
Full Flexibility
You can switch between in-person, Zoom, and phone sessions at any time β many clients mix all three depending on their week. I am flexible about format and will always work with what suits you best.

Questions About Booking
A few things people oftenΒ ask.
Is online counselling as effective as seeing someone in person?
Yes β for the vast majority of concerns, research consistently shows that online counselling produces equivalent outcomes to in-person sessions. The therapeutic relationship, which is the most important factor in counselling outcomes, transfers fully to a Zoom or phone format. Some people actually find it easier β thereβs no commute, no waiting room, and being in your own space can make it easier to open up.
What do I need for a Zoom or phone session?
Very little. For Zoom, you need a device with a camera and microphone (a smartphone works perfectly), a stable internet connection. You donβt need a Zoom account β I send you a link and you just click to join. For phone sessions, you just need your phone β no internet, no app. I call you at your appointment time. If youβre not familiar with Zoom, Iβm happy to walk you through it beforehand.
The most important thing for any remote session is having a private, safe space where you feel comfortable speaking openly β somewhere you wonβt be overheard or interrupted. This might be a room at home, a parked car, or anywhere else that feels secure to you.
Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?
Absolutely. Many of my clients mix in-person, Zoom, and phone sessions depending on the week. Just let me know when booking which format youβd prefer β Iβll confirm in-person availability, send a Zoom link, or arrange a call-back accordingly.
